Who am I?

Hi! I'm happy you've found yourself here, nice to meet you! I’m Eleni Ray - a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach in the East Bay and a Northern California native.

I began coaching four years ago at Equinox Berkeley and spent two years as a Manager of the Personal Training Department there, hiring, teaching, developing, and managing coaches. I taught my team a range of skills, including interpersonal ones, sales and closing, consultation processes, programming design, and technical training application in both 1-on-1 and group settings. In 2025, I decided it was time for a new chapter and left Equinox to start Eleni Ray Personal Training, with the intention of making my training and skill set more accessible to the East Bay community and beyond.

I find purpose in helping people of all ages, identities, and genders build strength, skill, confidence, and autonomy by teaching practical application. As a Coach who has hired my own coaches, I understand that knowledge is not the magic key to success, but rather, planning and practicing how to apply the knowledge in the context of your own life, goals, capacity, and willingness.

As such, my coaching philosophy is rooted in adaptability, education, application, agency, and independence building. Goals (like getting stronger, building muscle, losing fat, improving endurance, etc.) are wonderful, motivating things to have, but clear structure and the self-efficacy to know how and that you will achieve them are invaluable. My goal as a Coach is not only to 'get you there,' but to teach you how to achieve it along the way, so that you own and understand the skill set, and can maintain and repeat the process for the rest of your life.

With an Associate's Degree in Communication Studies, a Bachelor's in Media Studies from UC Berkeley, and a childhood filled with musical theater performances, I take great pride in my interpersonal skills, ability to empathize, and connect. Having spent time on a stage rather than an athletic field during my childhood, I taught myself, in adulthood, what it meant to take care of my body through movement and nutrition. Through trial and error (and eating disorder), I began to educate myself and became empowered to use both exercise and nutrition as tools to aid, not harm, my body.

Personal training has been the most fulfilling, beautiful blend of my life's most grounding facets - human connection, which makes consciousness so rich, and exercise, which saved me from illness and taught me what pride in my body's strength and ability can feel like.

When I’m not coaching, working with clients online, or training myself, you’ll easily find me hiking in our regional parks, cooking, listening to an audiobook, on FaceTime with my mom, sister, and niece, or on a neighborhood walk with my partner.
